UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan visits Scientific and Practical Center for the Development of Home Land Plots

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Ms. Matilda Dimovska, during a 3-day official visit to Ferghana Valley last week, visited one of the agrometeorological stations established within the framework of a joint UNDP project and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry “Increasing the resilience and adaptation of farmers in the Ferghana Valley to the risks of climate change” implemented with the financial support of the Russian Federation.

During her visit to the "Scientific and Practical Center for the Development of Home Land Plots" in Kuva district of Ferghana region, Ms. Dimovska met with representatives of the center, regional and district crane plant inspection service, farmers, who spoke about the effectiveness of the work carried out with the introduction of advanced, modern technologies, in particular, on the use of an agrometeorological station for growing fruit and vegetable crops.

Today, on the territory of this center, agricultural activities are carried out by about 40 farmers who regularly use meteorological data transmitted from meteorological stations. With the help of specialists from the plant quarantine inspectorate, farmers can not only learn about the weather forecast, the risk of the spread of pests and diseases in a given area, but also receive timely qualified assistance in the prevention and control of plant pests and diseases.

Prior to the installation and launch of the meteorological station, the project conducted a series of trainings for specialists of the quarantine inspection service, farmers and owners of household plots, where participants received more detailed information on the functions and features of the agrometeorological station, the role of forecasting and preventive measures.

The choice of this center for the installation of the agrometeorological station turned out to be very useful, because here there are all the conditions for year-round cultivation of agricultural crops, the farm has more than 70 species of fruit trees, including subtropical and local ones. The resulting harvest is exported to Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and other countries. In addition, unique ornamental trees are grown here. In total, about 1.0 million units of various fruit and ornamental trees are grown here annually.

In general, Ms. Dimovska positively assessed the work carried out, and also expressed hope that in the future the cooperation will remain at the same high level and bring its worthy results.
