Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and UNDP have been collaborating in the framework of the project “Improving Sustainability and Adaptation of Farmers of the Ferghana Valley to the Climate Change Risks” for the second year, Dunyo reports.
The purpose of the interaction is the introduction of advanced agricultural practices, which include expanding opportunities and increasing adaptive capacity, using environmentally friendly production methods and innovative technologies among agricultural producers in Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions.
During a visit to Quva district of Ferghana region, the Minister of Agriculture, the chairman of the CCI and the chairman of the Council of farms, dekhkan farms and farmland owners of Uzbekistan got acquainted with the activities of the project to introduce advanced agricultural experience in the region.
Quva distriis a pilot region of the project, in which one of 9 agrometeorological stations for servicing farmers and dekhkan farms is installed. Here, work is underway to create a unified system for forecasting and combating the spread of diseases and pests of crops. The system will allow to establish continuous contact between specialists and farmers, which will significantly reduce the time to receive information, consultations and recommendations on taking timely measures to protect the crop.
Based on the results of the trip and meetings, recommendations were made and plans were outlined for further cooperation in modernizing the agricultural sector, increasing the potential and expanding the capabilities of agricultural producers not only in the Ferghana Valley, but throughout the republic.
UNDP activities in the field of modernization and intensive development of agriculture are carried out in accordance with the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, as well as in the framework of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN member countries.
