Ukraine imposes sanctions on three companies and an entrepreneur from Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on 58 individuals and 74 companies from Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, China, and Iran, according to Ukrainian press reports.
The sanctions, which will last for 10 years, target businesses in sectors such as machine engineering, chemicals, metallurgy, aviation, and distributors of electronics.
The list includes three companies from Uzbekistan: Mercury Renaissance, Raw Materials Cellulose, and the Fergana Chemical Plant (Farg‘ona Kimyo Zavodi), which specializes in cotton cellulose production.
Mercury Renaissance and its subsidiary, Ferg‘ona Kimyo Zavodi, are owned by Rustam Muminov (60%) and Shahriyor Tajiyev (40%). The owners of Raw Materials Cellulose are Larisa Utkin (76%) and Larisa Rakhimjanova (24%).
Rustam Muminov is also listed among the individuals targeted by the sanctions. The document notes that he holds citizenship in both Uzbekistan and Russia.
The Ferg‘ona Chemical Plant and Raw Materials Cellulose are mentioned in a joint investigation by the publications Vazhnyye Istorii, Vlast.Kz, and the OCCRP consortium, as well as in an investigation by the BBC Russian Service.
The reports state that these companies supply cotton cellulose to Russian powder factories, both directly and through private intermediaries. Journalists claim that the volume of such shipments has significantly increased since the onset of Russia's aggression against Ukraine in 2022.
