Two officials arrested on corruption charges in Namangan Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Namangan Region, an assistant to a hokim and an employee of the cadastral authorities have been detained on suspicion of corruption-related crimes. Criminal cases have been opened against both individuals, and investigations are underway.

According to reports, in the Pap District an assistant to the hokim demanded US$2,000 from a citizen in exchange for assistance in processing cadastral documents for a residential house built on a 6-sotka plot of land.

At the same time, the entire land parcel, with a total area of 30 sotkas, had previously been allocated for farming purposes for a period of 49 years. Using connections with influential acquaintances, the official attempted to illegally formalize the land plot as private property.

He was caught in the act while receiving, through an intermediary, a previously agreed amount of US$1,000. A criminal case has been initiated against him under Articles 168 (Fraud) and 211 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are continuing.

In another incident, an employee of a district branch of the State Cadastral Chamber was detained. He received US$900 and 4.8 million soums in return for promising, through intermediaries, to formalize 10 sotkas of land from the state reserve and a house built on it as private property in the name of a citizen. A criminal case on fraud charges has been opened in this case as well, and an investigation is ongoing.

Operational measures to detain the officials were carried out by officers of the State Security Service in cooperation with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes.
