Two large-scale exhibitions dedicated to the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan will open in Paris

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In November this year, two exhibitions will open in Paris - the exhibition “Treasures of the oases of Uzbekistan. At the crossroads of caravan routes”, which will be held at the Louvre from 24 November 2022 to 6 March 2023.

An appropriate agreement on the organization of the exhibition was signed between the Art and Culture Development Foundation of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Louvre Museum. On behalf of the Foundation, the document was signed by Executive Director Gayane Umerova, and on behalf of the Louvre Museum, President Laurens de Cars.

Also, the Arab World Institute will host the exhibition “Road to Samarkand, Colors and Splendor of Uzbekistan”, which will open on 22 November 2022 and will last until 4 June 2023. A similar agreement was signed between the Foundation and the Arab World Institute; on behalf of the Institute, the document was signed by the president of the institute, Jacques Lang.

“Today, Uzbekistan and France are strong partners in many areas. We are constantly building up cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, economy and culture. The two upcoming exhibitions are another important step on our joint path. They will be held in Paris almost at the same time, they will make it possible to form a multifaceted view of the culture and art of Uzbekistan and will allow us to show the unique heritage of our country in the global cultural context, which is one of the main tasks for us. Uzbekistan has always been a place of cultural exchange and trade, and the Great Silk Road has become, in a sense, the first global economic project,” said Saida Mirziyoyeva, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Fund for the Development of Culture and Art of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Exhibition “Treasures of the oases of Uzbekistan. At the crossroads of caravan routes” in the Louvre will tell about the history of the Great Silk Road, which passed through the southern part of present-day Uzbekistan. Here will be presented objects of monumental and easel art, wall paintings, carved details of palaces, objects of arts and crafts.

The exhibition will feature 168 museum exhibits, in particular 137 items from 13 museums of the Republic of Uzbekistan, covering the period from the 5th-6th century BC to the Timurid era, and 31 museum exhibits from the world’s leading museums such as the Cabinet of Medals (Paris), National Library of France (Paris), British Museum (London), British Library (London), Guimet Museum (Paris), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), Cleveland Museum (USA), Louvre Museum (Paris), University Library of Languages and Civilizations (BULAC) (Paris), Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon).

The exhibition "Road to Samarkand, Colors and Splendor of Uzbekistan" at the Institute of the Arab World will present more than 300 exhibits from nine museums of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which include collections of textiles, clothing, shoes, hats, jewelry of the late XIX - mid XX century, gold-embroidered chapans of the era of the Bukhara Emirate, as well as paintings of the Turkestan avant-garde from the collections of state museums in Uzbekistan. As part of the exhibitions at the Louvre and at the Arab World Institute, scientific catalogs with scientific articles by international and local experts will be published.
