Training center for studying water-saving technologies opened in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 18 March 2021, a solemn event dedicated to World Water Day was held, which is celebrated annually on 22 March.

The idea of its holding was first voiced at the UN Conference on Environment and Development, which took place in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. The UN General Assembly, by adopting Resolution 47/193 of 22 February, 1993, declared 22 March as the World Water Day.

Within the framework of a joint project of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP in Uzbekistan under the EU Program, there is a good tradition of joint celebration of this important international day together with the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.

As part of the celebration of this important day, competitions are held with the participation of young people in order to draw public attention to the rational use and conservation of water for future generations.

This year, World Water Day is celebrated under the motto "The Value of Water" Unfortunately, the problem of access to safe water for 2.2 billion people is still not solved in the world.

As a gift for World Water Day, within the framework of the UNDP project "Strengthening technical capacity" of the European Union program "Sustainable water resources management in rural areas in Uzbekistan", the construction of a training ground for students of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers to study water-saving technologies has been completed, which will help to increase the scientific potential of young scientists and future specialists in the field of water management.

This training center includes classrooms, a lysimetric complex, a pumping station and various irrigation technologies and is designed to improve educational programs and research studies in the implementation and application of water-saving technologies. The construction of the center will serve to ensure the sustainability of the project towards improving professional skills in water management.

The ceremony was attended by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan, Ambassador Charlotte Adriaen, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Ms. Matilda Dimovska, Rector of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers Uktam Umurzakov, Minister of Water Resources, Shavkat Khamraev, Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education Abdukodir Toshkulov, Minister of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, as well as faculty and students of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.

The event ended with a solemn pilaf and a summery - a festive treat, which is prepared in the spring in honor of the spring equinox Navruz, which were offered to the guests of the event.
