Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Trade Union of Culture, Sports and Tourism Workers has been established. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov at the 5th Congress of the Association of the Trade Union of Workers of Education, Science and Culture of Uzbekistan on 26 August.

“Within the framework of large-scale reforms carried out by the head of our state in recent years under the motto “Renewing Uzbekistan ”, the tourism, culture and sports spheres are also experiencing a period of radical renewal, contributing to the economic development of our country and the well-being of the people. In turn, I believe that one of the main indicators of the development of these areas, especially tourism, are measures to ensure employment and create thousands of jobs, the active formation of labor relations between employers and employees, which became one of the main reasons for our meeting today.

The decision to establish the Republican Council of the Trade Union of Culture, Sports and Tourism Workers by separating the Trade Union of Education, Science and Culture Workers from the Trade Union is an important step in the early prevention of labor disputes and the protection of workers’ rights in these areas,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

At the same time, it was added that in accordance with the instructions of the President of Uzbekistan, in order to increase the efficiency of reforms in the field of tourism, culture and sports, as well as the development of mutual cooperation, a Joint Commission on Tourism, Culture and Sports was established headed by the Deputy Prime Minister.

At the congress, it was noted that a large-scale work on the repair and construction of new sanatoriums was carried out in the system, a number of travel companies were created to ensure high-quality recreation of labor collectives and their children, hotels and children’s camps in Tashkent, Samarkand, Urgench and Khiva were built and function today.

It was also noted that with the direct support of the Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, study tours to Uzbekistan were organized for representatives of various trade unions of Russia and Belarus. They noted that visits of labor collectives to our country are expected in the future.

“Today, 260,000 people in our country are directly involved in tourism, and in the current pandemic, the role of trade unions in protecting their interests and providing them with the necessary assistance is great. In addition, more and more modern recreation and tourism zones, health-improving complexes have been opening in our country recently.

The deployment of workers to these locations by unions also contributes significantly to the development of the tourism industry. In addition, our trade unions are actively working in the international direction, including with trade unions, large industrial associations and other public organizations of the CIS countries, especially Russia and Belarus, to attract their members for recreation, treatment and health restoration in Uzbekistan.

In this regard, trade unions are considered our important partners, and we are ready to expand these partnerships, said Aziz Abdukhakimov. Rebuilding the tourism sector, which has been hit harder by the pandemic than other sectors, through domestic tourism flows is one of the most fundamental challenges we face today. At the same time, of course, the trade unions, which can unite labor collectives, are our main partners. In this regard, in conclusion, Aziz Abdukhakimov called on representatives of trade union associations to contribute to the implementation of systematic trips of labor collectives around the country (in accordance with the quarantine rules), as well as to re-provide employment for our population serving tourists in more than 20 areas.
