The department said that the bilateral trade between two nations increased and diversified in 2013. According to Polish statistics, bilateral trade turnover rose by 18% year-on-year to US$124 million in ten months of 2013.
Poland exported 13 groups of goods to Uzbekistan in 2012 and this year the figure reached 20. Uzbekistan also expands nomenclature of exported goods to Poland due to supply of food (share of which in exports of Uzbekistan to Poland rose twice this year), textile and cotton products, as well as chemical goods.
The department said that the trade turnover of Uzbekistan and Poland can exceed US$170 million in 2013 if current positive trend is kept.
The statement said that several mutual visits and events, both at the level of ministries and departments and business structures were held in 2013, which allowed to strengthen and expand bilateral trade-economic relations.
The important event in the Uzbek-Polish trade-economic relations became the Sixth session of the Uzbek-Polish inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation, was held in Tashkent in November 2013.
The commission considered actual issues of expanding bilateral trade-economic, financial and technical cooperation. It also determined perspective directions of interaction in such areas as chemistry, food, pharmaceuticals, textile, machinery, production of construction materials and other sectors.
Within the session of the commission, the business forum and cooperation exchange were held, which demonstrated great potential of cooperation between business circles of two states.
The delegations of Poland also visited Tashkent and Ferghana to participate in exhibitions and business forums, which helped to establish direct contacts among business circles of Uzbekistan and Poland. The Polish companies also participated at International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair in October 2013 and signed several agreements on purchase of cotton for next year.
Uzbekistan and Poland are also expanding legal base for bilateral economic cooperation in various areas. The agreement on cooperation between Polish Agency for development of entrepreneurship and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan was signed. The sides expressed interest in developing partnership and exchange of experience in supporting business entities and set mechanisms of cooperation.
The sides are working on several more documents, including on a draft memorandum of cooperation in the sphere of construction supervision and agreement on phytosanitary services of two states, etc.
Two countries are actively cooperating in agriculture sector, especially in horticultural and cattle breeding. The volume of supply of fruit planting stock rose almost 1.5 times and cattle grew 2 times in 2013. Polish experts in agriculture sector held several seminars for the Uzbek colleagues in 2013.
The Department said that number of requests on business contacts increased in 2013, which demonstrated mutual interest of businesses to establish contacts.
The Department said that 2014 will be rich for events in Polish-Uzbek trade-economic cooperation. Several Polish firms will attend UzBuild-2014 exhibition. Overall, it is planned that Polish side will participate in five large exhibitions in Uzbekistan and special catalogues will be published for these events.
For several years, the Department on assisting trade and investment of Poland Embassy in Tashkent in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan has been holding meeting “Days of Open Doors” for businesses in Uzbekistan, which are interested in developing economic contacts with Poland. Such seminars were held in Syrdarya, Jizzakh, Navoi and Kashkadarya regions this year. The department plans to continue work in this direction in 2014.
In autumn 2014, Warsaw will host the Seventh session of the Uzbek-Polish intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which will also include the Uzbek-Polish business forum.
