Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 September 2020, Toshshahartranskhizmat held a media tour for journalists along the Tashkent metro. The route included two new stations on the Yunusabad line and a new elevated metro line.
The main news is the phasing out of tokens. The new stations are equipped with double-type turnstiles. The first one is durable plastic cards; when passing through the turnstile, 1,400 soums are debited from such a card. The account on the card can be replenished through special terminals at the metro ticket offices. According to the metro employees, a mobile application has been developed to replenish an account on a card. While it exists only on Android, there will soon be an application for iOS, as well as the possibility of replenishment through the PayMe and Сlick services.
For passengers who do not want to get cards, payment is made by purchasing a paper coupon with a QR code, which opens the turnstile when presented with a reader. It is important to remember that a coupon with a QR code is valid only at the station where it was bought. This created some confusion in the early days of the elevated metro, but now passengers are used to it - and there are many of them, especially on the elevated line - trains run full, refuting fears that the new ring line will not be in demand.
More news that will interest Tashkent residents. Now the station on Kuylyuk has number 7. It has already been decided that station number 10 will be located opposite the international airport. Where will the line go next? This issue is still under consideration. There are two options under discussion - the first, already familiar from previous publications, to the station of the Chilanzar line "Almazar". The second option proposes a circular line to the terminal station "Chinor" of the Sergeli line, which should be opened by the end of the year. The second option will cover the vastness of the new Yangi hayot district.
In general, the new stations of the Yunusabad line and the elevated metro evoke a feeling of delight with their beautiful design and impeccable performance. The launch of the metro is an excellent and long-awaited gift for the people of Tashkent in this difficult 2020.
