Tianjin to Host SCO Heads of State Summit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will take place from 31 August to 1 September 2025, in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China.

The official dates were announced by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a joint press conference with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev. According to Wang, the summit will bring together leaders of more than twenty countries, along with heads of ten international organizations.

Tianjin will become the fourth Chinese city to host a high-level SCO event, following Shanghai, Beijing, and Qingdao. As the presiding country of the SCO for 2024–2025, China views the upcoming summit as a strategic platform to further strengthen the organization’s role on the global stage.

The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that the summit will address a broad range of priority issues, including regional security, counterterrorism, the fight against extremism and separatism, and the deepening of political, economic, and technological cooperation among member states.

Special focus will be given to collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as discussions on the digital economy, sustainable development, and expanded trade relations.

It is worth noting that last week Tianjin hosted a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers, where the agenda for the upcoming summit and regional stability issues were discussed.

The Tianjin summit is expected to be a major milestone for the SCO in 2025, underscoring the organization’s growing importance as a platform for constructive dialogue and joint responses to modern global challenges. It is also anticipated to give new momentum to cooperation between Uzbekistan and other SCO member countries.
