Three Uzbek Women Detained in Türkiye for attempting to smuggle gold illegally
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 April, three female citizens of Uzbekistan arriving from the Kazakh city of Shymkent were detained at Istanbul Airport, reports Sozcu.
No prohibited items were found during the luggage inspection; however, an X-ray scan revealed the presence of solid objects in the women’s lower back area. By order of the prosecutor’s office, they were sent to a hospital for a more thorough radiological examination, which confirmed the presence of items inside the detainees’ genital areas.
Under the supervision of female police officers, the suspects were searched in a specially equipped zone, resulting in the seizure of gold. In total, 120 gold coins of varying weights were extracted, weighing 6 kilograms and 28 grams altogether. The confiscated gold was handed over to the Bureau for Offense Prevention and Investigation units.
It is worth recalling that recently in Istanbul, a passenger attempted to smuggle ancient books into Tashkent, which experts valued at hundreds of millions of soms.
