Three Suspects Detained in Samarkand Region for Attempting to Sell 18 kg of Silver

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Officers of the State Security Service (SSS) Department for Samarkand Region detained three residents of Navoi Region, born in 1980, 1983, and 1987, during an operational raid in the Narpay District.

The suspects attempted to sell 18 kilograms of silver alloy at a price of 11,700 soums per gram, amounting to a total of about US$21,000. They were apprehended at the scene of the crime.

According to the Inspectorate for the Control of Precious Metals under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the seized metal weighed 16 kilograms and 744 grams with a purity of 999. The estimated value of the silver is 502.3 million soums.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 4, Article 177(a) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the precious metal.
