Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR, Uzbekistan) and Overseas Development Institute (ODI, UK) agreed on further joint work and cooperation in the field of research, analysis and communication as part of joint efforts to support processes economic reforms.
On 7-10 September 2021, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sadyk Safoev, Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms Obid Khakimov is in the UK.
During the visit, representatives of Uzbekistan held a number of negotiations and meetings in London.
In the office of the Foreign Development Institute (ODI), a meeting was held between Executive Director Sarah Pantuliano and Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) Obid Khakimov.
The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is an independent think tank for international development and humanitarian issues, founded in 1960. Based in London, her mission is to "inspire and inform policies and practices that lead to poverty reduction, alleviation of suffering and sustainable livelihoods in developing countries." This is achieved by "bringing together high quality applied research, practical policy advice, dissemination and policy debate."
During the meeting, the state and prospects for the further development of cooperation in the economic, trade, economic, investment, and educational spheres, including activation in the field of joint research, were discussed.
Following the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Center for Economic Research and Reforms and the Institute for Foreign Development to provide a framework for further ODI and CERR collaboration and cooperation in research, analysis and communication as part of joint efforts to support economic reform processes.
The parties identified potential areas of cooperation, among them joint research and analysis between specialists from the two countries, the organization of joint events such as seminars or conferences, joint work on the implementation of mutually beneficial projects.
In particular, an agreement was reached on joint research on the impact of changes in trade policy on macroeconomic indicators and individual sectors, the fight against poverty, energy efficiency and regional problems in the development of value chains.
Following the meeting, further steps were outlined for practical interaction within the framework of the discussed areas of cooperation.
CERR Director O. Khakimov invited S. Pantuliano to visit Uzbekistan this fall. The head of ODI expressed her sincere gratitude and accepted the invitation to pay a visit to Uzbekistan.
