Thermal power plant in Tashkent region: Turkish Cengiz Enerji to build a thermal power plant by 2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 10 September 2020, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan held negotiations with the Turkish energy company Cengiz Enerji, during which topical issues related to the implementation of the project for the construction of a thermal power plant with a capacity of 240 MW in Tashkent region. 

The agreement on this project was reached during the visit of the government delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Turkey in July this year.

The construction of the thermal power plant will ensure the attraction of direct Turkish investments in the amount of up to US$150 million, the creation of 500 new jobs during the construction period and 100 jobs during the operation of the power plant, ensure the generation of available electricity in the amount of 2 billion kWh per year, which, in its turn, will allow to diversify the energy balance of the Republic, significantly reducing the consumption of natural gas spent on electricity generation.

Following the meeting, the signing ceremony of the Investment Agreement between Cengiz Enerji and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, as well as the Agreement with National Electricity Networks of Uzbekistan on the purchase of electricity from a Turkish company for a period of 25 years took place.

Construction work is planned to begin before the end of this year with the commissioning of the facility within 12 months from the start of construction.
