Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 December, the 28th meeting of the Council of Heads of State News Agencies of the CIS was held via videoconference with the technical support of TASS. The event was attended by the heads of state information agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting was opened and chaired by the Chairman of the Council of Heads of State News Agencies of the CIS, Director General of TASS SV Mikhailov.
Each of the speakers briefly outlined the work and priorities of their agency at the moment and plans for the near future.
All speakers expressed their readiness to participate in joint projects in the information sphere.
In connection with the chairmanship in the CIS next year of the Kyrgyz Republic, the General Director of Kabar M.A. Shermetaliyev announced plans to hold about 100 major events in the country.
The director of the BELTA agency, I.B. Akulovich, proposed to create a joint project in 2023 about the participants in the Great Patriotic War.
AI Matyash, Director of the Information and Analytical Department of the CIS Executive Committee, presented an overview of the major events in the Commonwealth coming next year and invited the CIS news agencies to take an active part in their coverage.
The members of the Information Council expressed their support for the operational information support of the events planned in the Commonwealth space, related, among other things, to holding the II Games of the CIS, the Year of the Russian Language as a Language of Interethnic Communication and the realization of the status of St. Petersburg as the cultural capital of the Commonwealth.
During the discussions, the relevance of increased attention to information security issues was also noted, environmental issues, problems related to providing the population with water and climate change were touched upon. The participants of the meeting agreed to promote the development of domestic tourism in the CIS space, conduct exchanges of journalists, and implement other joint projects.
It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Council in person in the first half of 2023 in the capital of one of the CIS countries.
