The volume of non-performing loans in Uzbek banks exceeds 21 trillion soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 January 2025, the volume of non-performing loans (NPL) in Uzbekistan's commercial banks reached 21.18 trillion soums, according to data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

The total loan portfolio of all commercial banks on the specified date amounted to 533.12 trillion soums, with non-performing loans accounting for 4% of the overall portfolio.

Among non-state banks, non-performing loans were valued at 6.84 trillion soums, which constitutes 4.1% of their total loan portfolio. Meanwhile, state-owned banks reported non-performing loans amounting to 14.34 trillion soums, representing 3.9% of their portfolio.

The state-owned banks with the largest volumes of non-performing loans include UzNatsbank (3.27 trillion soums), Agrobank (2.9 trillion soums), and the Business Development Bank (1.91 trillion soums). Among non-state banks, Ipoteka Bank (3.57 trillion soums) and Kapitalbank (1.43 trillion soums) lead in this category.

The banks with the highest share of non-performing loans in their portfolios are Madad Invest Bank, with a rate of 24.1%, Garant Bank at 14.8%, and AVO Bank at 12.5%.

It is noteworthy that a year earlier, as of January 1, 2024, the total volume of non-performing loans in commercial banks was 16.62 trillion soums, accounting for 3.5% of their loan portfolio.
