Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 6th meeting of the Uzbek-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation was held in Tashkent. The meeting was also attended by the heads of relevant ministries and departments of the two countries.
During the event, the current agenda of trade, economic, investment, transport and logistics, scientific, technological and cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, the existing prospects for its expansion, as well as new areas of bilateral interaction were discussed.
Also at the meeting, the parties discussed the organizational, technical and substantive parts of the official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The parties emphasized the huge untapped potential in investment cooperation and bilateral trade. During the meeting, the heads of the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries were instructed to take the necessary measures to increase the number of joint projects and increase trade in the coming years.
An agreement was reached on the development of new joint projects in such areas as agriculture, light and chemical industries, pharmaceuticals and other promising industries.
The need to strengthen partnership in the transport and logistics sphere and intensify practical interaction within the framework of the project for the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar railway was emphasized. The parties also discussed ways to increase the efficiency of using the potential of the large Pakistani ports of Karachi, Gwadar and Qasim. An agreement was reached to establish a joint working group to develop a step-by-step "Road Map" to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. The Road Map will include specific practical measures, interaction mechanisms and a list of responsible heads of ministries and departments on both sides.
The parties noted the importance of developing cooperation in the tourism sector between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, including through pilgrimage ("ziyorat") tourism. In this context, the parties welcomed the signing of the Agreement of Understanding between the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Interprovincial Coordination of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Following the meeting, a final protocol was signed, which included key agreements reached during the event and specific measures to deepen multifaceted cooperation between the two states.
