The use of the Uzbek alphabet in the Latin alphabet to become mandatory

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Government resolution approved a "Road Map" to ensure a complete step-by-step transition to the Uzbek alphabet based on the Latin script.

The following documents must be in Latin:

- identity cards, ID-cards, residence permits of foreign citizens and documents of stateless persons;

- working documents, various forms;

- names of streets, places, organizations, advertisements, announcements.

In addition, the activities of central, print and electronic media, Internet sites, publishing houses, printing companies will be translated into Uzbek language based on the Latin alphabet.

In particular, it is planned to implement:

- development of a draft regulatory document aimed at ensuring a complete transition to the Uzbek alphabet based on the Latin alphabet;

- development of a draft government decree on the approval of the "Rules of spelling of the Uzbek language" based on the new edition of the Uzbek alphabet in Latin;

- discussion of projects posted on the SOVAZ portal after checking their compliance with the rules of the state language, as well as their preparation in the Uzbek language based on the Latin alphabet.

In addition, information on official websites should be posted in the Uzbek language based on the Latin alphabet.
