The upcoming Samarkand SCO summit in the focus of media attention in China

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- China magazine published an article on Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the SCO and preparations for the upcoming Samarkand summit, Dunyo news agency reported.

According to the publication, the final event under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO in the city of Samarkand, which will be held on 15-16 September.

The publication notes that the choice of the venue of Samarkand has a deep meaning - this city from time immemorial has been a place of historical meetings and civilizational dialogue, a bridge of cultural and humanitarian mutual enrichment and development of international trade, strengthening good neighborliness.

Today, on the eve of the summit, the "pearl" of the Great Silk Road is experiencing a new birth with a large-scale reconstruction and is ready to host the largest political and diplomatic forum on a global scale, the article says.

According to the magazine, the events held during the chairmanship of Uzbekistan were filled with a relevant agenda, important agreements were reached at them, further joint plans were agreed, which is especially important in the context of the post-pandemic revival of the economies of the SCO member states. In a word, the format of holding SCO events introduced by the Uzbek side made it possible to achieve practical results and set new guidelines for representatives of the business communities of the Organization countries.

The publication emphasizes that the priorities of the country’s chairmanship in the SCO outlined by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have been almost fully implemented, the results of which make it possible to enrich the content of the upcoming Samarkand summit. The priorities put forward by the Uzbek side meet the interests of all parties and, most importantly, are aimed at ensuring stability, sustainable development and strengthening friendship and good neighborliness throughout the SCO space.

In accordance with the summit agenda agreed with the partners, the leaders of the SCO member states, observers and dialogue partners will discuss new challenges and tasks facing the organization in the light of the profound transformation of modern interstate relations, topical issues of international and regional issues.

It is noted that the main final document of the summit will be the Samarkand Declaration of the Heads of State, which will reflect the common approaches of the SCO countries to solving regional and global problems, and outline the priorities for the development of the organization.

The Samarkand SCO summit will become a unique international platform for a constructive discussion between its broad participants on issues of ensuring security, sustainable development, promoting interconnectedness and interaction based on the principles of mutual respect, friendship and good neighborliness.

Taking into account the importance and number of a number of conceptual documents to be approved by the leaders, the results of the summit will be decisive in the development of the SCO in the third decade of its young history, China magazine concludes.
