Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- For 9 months of 2020, unemployment benefits were paid to about 60,000 Uzbek citizens, more than 500,000 unemployed citizens were involved in public works. 

The total number of unemployed in the country, according to the results of the first half of the year, reached 1.9 million people.

In January-September 2020, unemployment benefits were awarded to about 60,00 citizens of Uzbekistan. In the first half of the year, the unemployment rate was 13.2 percent, that is, about 2 million citizens need work. This was stated by the head of the department of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations Temur Makhmudov.

“For 9 months, about 60 thousand citizens of Uzbekistan were recognized as unemployed, and they were assigned unemployment benefits. At the same time, public works should also be mentioned,” Temur Makhmudov said.

Unemployment benefit is paid for a maximum of 26 weeks in one calendar year.
