The sixth round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and Iran takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 March 2021, the sixth round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran took place in Tehran.

The delegations of the parties were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Said Abbas Arakchi.

They discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in various formats, and also exchanged views on certain international and regional issues. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan and Iran have significant potential for the further development of bilateral cooperation.

Proposals on the schedule and agenda of upcoming joint events at various levels and formats were considered, in particular, the 14th meeting of the Uzbek-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

Mutual interest was expressed in deepening trade, economic, investment, transport and communication ties.

The parties noted the emerging positive trends in the development of interstate relations, including within the framework of the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Economic Cooperation Organization.

The head of the delegation of Uzbekistan invited the Iranian side to the International high-level conference “Central and South Asia: regional interconnectedness. Challenges and Opportunities”, which will be held in Tashkent in 2021.

Within the framework of the consultations, other issues of the general agenda were also considered.
