Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 March 2021, at an expanded meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investment and Tourism, the reports of the heads of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United States and China were heard.

It was noted that the hearings were organized with the aim of strengthening parliamentary control over the timely and high-quality implementation of the provisions of the road maps of cooperation with the indicated partner countries.

The event was attended by members of the Senate, heads of a number of relevant ministries and departments, state-owned companies, deputies of the Kengashes of People's Deputies, representatives of local authorities, public organizations, and journalists.

The heads of the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan to the United States and China presented reports on the work done to implement the road maps, including the implementation of specific projects aimed at expanding exports, attracting investments and increasing tourist flow to the regions of the republic.

In particular, it was emphasized that with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States in 2020, 12 mutual visits of official delegations, 40 various events were organized and more than 100 negotiations were held. Funds of material and technical assistance in the amount of more than US $ 10 million were attracted.

In turn, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the PRC organized 33 events at the highest and high level aimed at expanding bilateral political, cultural and humanitarian ties and ensuring security. At the end of 2020, with the assistance of the embassy, US$728.6 million of direct Chinese investments were attracted.

Within the framework of an open and substantive discussion, the results of the implementation of the agreements and the priority tasks of diplomatic missions were considered, a critical assessment of their activities was given, and systemic problems in promoting the economic interests of the republic were indicated. Attention is focused on the implementation of some investment projects in the regions of the country.

The meeting noted the effective work of the embassies in a number of areas, in the political, trade and economic spheres. At the same time, it was pointed out that there were no practical results on a number of investment projects in the regions of Uzbekistan, and a delay in the execution of the concluded trade contracts.

The heads of diplomatic missions were given detailed recommendations and specific tasks were set to improve the effectiveness of their activities. Following the meeting, a corresponding decision was made by the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism.
