Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In order to preserve and support Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage, the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized the restoration of the Kattalangar Quran.
To carry out the restoration work, the Foundation hired specialists from the Louvre Museum Aurelia Streri - a master of conservation with 12 years of experience in this field and Axel Delau - a restorer, among whose projects is work in the Museums of Decorative Arts in Paris, Mont de Piet in Berg , the private museums of Émile Hermes, the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris and more than 25 reputable cultural institutions around the world.
The Quran was kept for a long time in the Langar-ota mosque in Kamashi district of Kashkadarya region and is considered one of the oldest Mushaf manuscripts in the Islamic world.
The restoration was divided into three stages. The initial phase was held in November 2019, the second phase in February 2020, and the final one in May 2021.
Currently, 13 pages of the Koran are stored in the necessary conditions at the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan.
