The reports of the heads of the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan in Korea, India and Indonesia considered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 31 May 2021, at an expanded meeting of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on international relations, foreign economic relations, foreign investment and tourism, the reports of the heads of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Korea, India and Indonesia were heard.

The main purpose of the hearing was to increase the executive discipline of diplomatic missions by establishing parliamentary control over the timely and high-quality implementation of the provisions of the roadmaps on mutual cooperation with the host countries.

The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate S. Safoev, members of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism, heads of a number of relevant ministries and departments, representatives of local authorities, and media workers.

The heads of the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan presented reports on the work done on the implementation of road maps for the development of bilateral relations with foreign countries, including the implementation of specific projects aimed at expanding exports, attracting investment and increasing tourist flow to the regions of the republic.

Within the framework of the open substantive discussion, the whole range of issues and priority tasks of diplomatic missions were considered, a critical assessment of their activities was given, and systemic shortcomings in promoting the economic interests of the republic abroad were indicated. Separately, attention was focused on the problems in the implementation of some investment projects in the regions of the country.

The meeting noted the effective activities of the embassies of Uzbekistan in the areas of political, cultural and humanitarian areas. At the same time, serious shortcomings and the lack of practical results are indicated in the work of individual heads of diplomatic missions in the direction of economic diplomacy, in particular, attracting investments and expanding trade turnover.

In addition, they noted the lack of systematic work in the field of promoting and strengthening interregional cooperation, as well as the development of twin cities between cities of the countries.

During the meeting, the Senators emphasized that in view of the ongoing threat of a global pandemic, it is necessary to expand work on cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals and medicine, including joint medical research, development of vaccines, and the creation of capacities for their production in Uzbekistan.

Thus, the heads of diplomatic missions were given detailed recommendations and specific tasks were set to improve the effectiveness of their activities. Following the meeting, a corresponding decision was made by the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism.
