Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - As part of the next item on the agenda of the twelfth plenary session of the Senate, the report “Year of the development of science, education and the digital economy” was heard.

It should be noted that within the framework of the State Program, only 170 documents were adopted, including 20 on the priority area of improving the system of state and social construction, 13 on the priority area of ensuring the rule of law and further reforming the judicial system, 63 on the priority area of economic development, 53 - in the priority direction of development of the social sphere, 21 - in the priority direction of ensuring security, interethnic harmony and religious tolerance, as well as in the implementation of a deeply thought-out, mutually beneficial and practical foreign policy.

In the reporting period, GDP growth in comparison with the previous year made up 1.6%, including in industry - 0.7%, in services – 2.3%, in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 3.0%.

Restrictions on the activities of trade and service enterprises in the context of the pandemic negatively affected the turnover and development of the service sector this year. In particular, the trade turnover amounted to 194.8 trillion soums, which grew by 3.2% compared to last year.

The total volume of services amounted to 218.9 trillion soums and increased by 2.3% compared to last year. The greatest growth is noted in the financial sector - 25.6%, in the field of communications and information - 115.3%, in the field of education - 7.4%.

To finance measures to combat coronavirus, 3 trillion 962 billion soums were funded for construction, reconstruction and overhaul of social and infrastructure facilities - 3 trillion 423 billion soums, to provide financial support to enterprises - 2 trillion 485 billion soums, to expand social support for the population -1 trillion 340 billion soums, for the construction of healthcare facilities and the creation of the necessary infrastructure -1 trillion 22 billion soums. The funds in the amount of 595 billion soums were spent to cover losses of local budgets and the pension fund.

In the reporting period, US$9.8 billion was disbursed at the expense of foreign investments and loans.

In 2020, 197 large projects were launched. As a result, more than 38 thousand new jobs were created.

At the same time, the drafts of normative legal acts developed in pursuance of 58 points of the State Program are under consideration by the responsible authorities, the deadline for the execution of 20 points has been extended.

It was noted at the meeting that senators should study the timely and high-quality implementation of the tasks defined in the Program in the context of regions and work with the relevant ministries and departments, local authorities to eliminate the identified deficiencies.

A corresponding resolution of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis was adopted on this issue.
