Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 May 2021, the 142nd session of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on the theme: "Overcoming the pandemic today and ensuring a better life tomorrow: the role of parliaments" was opened in the format of the videoconference.
The event was attended by Chairman of the IPU D. Pacheko, Secretary-General of the Union M. Chungong, heads of the Bureau of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians R. Al-Mansuri and the Council of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians S. Al-Bazar, as well as heads of national parliaments.
During the videoconference, the situation on countering coronavirus infection, ways to overcome the socio-economic difficulties caused by the pandemic and interaction between the parliaments of the countries of the world were discussed. There was also an exchange of information on the experience and achievements of each state in this direction and ensuring equal access to vaccines.
In particular, the head of the permanent delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Ministry of Railways - Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan T. Narbayeva spoke and provided information on the work carried out in the country to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, social protection of the population, economic support for business entities and the work carried out in the country on vaccination population against the coronavirus.
The videoconference participants highlighted the operational legislative measures being taken to mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic on the economy, and the need to ensure the availability of vaccines for the world’s population.
The format of the event allowed the representatives to ask questions of interest and take an active part in the discussion of the agenda. The event is aimed at raising the level of legal awareness of parliamentarians of the countries of the world, as well as the exchange of best practices in this area.
The assembly will run until 28 May 2021.
