Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 28 April 2021, at the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a meeting of the OSCE ODIHR Director Matteo Mecacci, who is on a visit to the republic, with the permanent members of the delegation of the Oliy Majlis to the OSCE PA was held.

An exchange of views took place on the state and prospects of interaction, expanding contacts within the OSCE PA, as well as deepening partnership with the OSCE / ODIHR in the field of the perfection of the legislative process and studying the best international experience in the implementation of parliamentary control.

The parties discussed the implementation of the provisions of the quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding between the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the OSCE ODIHR and the OSCE Project Coordinators in Uzbekistan, signed in 2018.

Members of the permanent delegation of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the OSCE PA informed about the current tasks and work plans within the framework of the assembly.

In turn, Matteo Mecacci noted the importance of close coordination between the OSCE PA and the OSCE / ODIHR in the organization of election observation missions. He expressed readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to Uzbekistan in the implementation of democratic reforms and efforts to strengthen the institutions of civil society, as well as to support the activities of the parliament of the republic in the OSCE PA.

During the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a systematic dialogue and active contacts, including interaction within the OSCE PA.
