The number of plantations with export-oriented cherries is growing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In order to increase the cultivation and export of cherries, many cherry plantations are being created in Uzbekistan. According to the results of the monitoring, as of May this year, 25.3 thousand tons of sweet cherries were grown in the republic, and this process will continue until the 3rd decade of June, depending on the climatic conditions of the regions.

As of 2022, there are 337.3 thousand hectares of orchards in all categories of farms in the country, including 25.1 thousand hectares of cherry plantations, where it is planned to grow 245 thousand tons of cherry crops.

In recent years, the use of innovative resource-saving technologies for planting and caring for sweet cherries has increased the yield from 8–10 tons to 12–13 tons. This includes the placement of high-yielding varieties, reducing the consumption of mineral fertilizers through the introduction of drip irrigation, as well as the qualitative implementation of such agrotechnical measures as the timely treatment of diseases and pests.

In the republic in 2021, 60.8 thousand tons of sweet cherries were exported, and as of 20 May 2022 - 8.7 thousand tons. In 2021, the country exported cherries to 18 foreign countries, including the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Korea, Latvia and other countries.

In order to increase the volume of production and export of cherries in the republic in 2021 by 5.1 thousand hectares and in the spring of 2022 by 1.2 thousand hectares, cherry plantations were created. To date, such varieties of sweet cherries as Sweet Ryana, Sweet Lorenz, Skeena, Early Lory, Revershon, Valery Chkalov, Voskhod, Revna, Napoleon and Stella are mainly sown.

Various methods are being introduced in the country to produce products that are competitive in quality and price by placing early-ripening, export-oriented, high-yielding varieties of agricultural crops, taking into account the soil and climatic conditions of all regions, providing qualified specialists, properly carrying out agrotechnical measures and applying economical technologies.
