The National Interest: Can Uzbekistan Build an Equitable Economy?

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The well-known American magazine The National Interest notes that with Shavkat Mirziyoyev coming to power, Uzbekistan has embarked on an ambitious program of economic and social reforms. The specific results of the policy are given: the country is one of the few countries in the world that avoided a recession during the pandemic and showed the best results in 2021.

The social policy of President Mirziyoyev, the introduction of new mechanisms for dialogue with the people, and the involvement of civil society are highlighted. The work of the virtual reception, as well as Internet portals for open discussion of draft laws and the state budget, is positively assessed.

The author also emphasizes the understanding of the existing problems by the leader of Uzbekistan, their open recognition and the desire to solve the issues of unemployment, poverty, corruption, and lack of housing.

The article notes that the government has set a goal to significantly reduce poverty by 2026 and achieve the status of a country with an upper middle income by 2030.

Youth policy is recognized as the cornerstone of the reforms. It is the youth, according to the author, who can become the driving force behind the development and modernization of Uzbekistan.

It is emphasized that by implementing its reforms, Uzbekistan is consolidated in the status of the leader of the region. The success of Tashkent's reforms will contribute to economic prosperity and stability throughout Central Asia, which is facing complex geopolitical challenges.
