Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The leadership of Uzbekistan is discussing the feasibility of moving the Tashkent airport outside the city. This was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports Rano Juraeva in an interview with the Alter Ego project.
According to her, the issue is being discussed at the level of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan. The Development Strategy of the country’s airports until 2035 envisages the construction of a new Tashkent airport 30 km from the city and develop it as an international hub.
Rano Juraeva noted that Uzbekistan Airports is working to support the growth rate of passenger traffic at the Tashkent airport. Work is underway at the airport
She noted that by the end of this year the capacity of the terminal will reach 2,400 passengers per hour. According to her, now 6-7 aircrafts per hour are landing at the airport. According to the company’s forecasts, in 2025-2027 the airport will receive 13 aircrafts per hour.
Rano Juraeva said that the Tashkent airport has two runways. But they are close and cannot be used at the same time. She noted that there is no land for the construction of a new strip.
