The Law “On Standardization” in a new edition was approved

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the thirty-third plenary session of the Senate, senators began work by discussing the Law on Standardization in a new edition.

It was noted that the current law was adopted in 1993 and in terms of content does not meet today’s requirements and international acts in the field of standardization.

The law is aimed at regulating relations in the field of standardization. In the Law, the concept of state standard means mandatory execution, in connection with which it was changed as a “national standard”. Since it is established that national standards are applied on a voluntary basis.

In accordance with the requirements of the World Trade Organization, the International Organization for Standardization and other organizations, standards are applied on a voluntary basis so that manufacturers can enter consumer markets or foreign markets and increase their competitiveness.

With the adoption of the Law, more than 18,000 standards are moving from mandatory to voluntary. At the same time, the procedure for applying international, regional and foreign standards in the Republic of Uzbekistan is being introduced. At the same time, they are applied by decision of the National Authority by adopting without change as national standards.

In the field of standardization, a procedure is also being introduced for the application of a “preliminary standard” (DS - Dastlabki Standard), which is adopted for a certain period.

The order of separate conduct of work on standardization in the context of different departments is cancelled. The authority to make decisions on the examination, approval, registration, updating of standards is transferred to the National Standardization Body - the Uzbek Institute of Standards under the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation.

In addition, the procedure for organizing standardization activities is clearly defined.

In particular, the procedure for planning work on standardization, creating and maintaining an information base, applying standards, publishing and distributing standards, resolving disputes in the field of standardization, that is, creating an Appeal Commission, is established.

The adoption of the law will make it easier for business entities and create convenience in the production of their products and goods and the provision of services based on modern and foreign standards. This will serve to provide the population with quality products and services.

The law was approved by the senators.
