The law enforcement practice to protect the rights of persons suffering from drug addiction diseases discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At a regular meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis in the second reading, a draft law "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with improving the system of protecting the rights of persons suffering from narcological diseases" was considered.

During the discussion of the draft law in the first reading, many questions arose related to compulsory treatment and its procedure. The proposals and recommendations received during the preparation of the draft for the second reading were considered, on the basis of which the draft was finalized.

Along with this, the law enforcement practice was studied and it turned out that there are a number of problems associated with the treatment of drug addicts. In particular, according to the Law "On the Prevention and Treatment of Narcological Diseases", it is possible to undergo compulsory treatment of persons convicted of administrative offenses under the influence of psychoactive substances in a state of intoxication more than once a year.

It was noted at the meeting that the adoption of this bill will serve to strengthen the legal framework for compulsory treatment of people suffering from drug addiction.

After active controversy, the bill was adopted by the deputies.
