Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A high-level meeting on sustainable mountain development was held in New York on the sidelines of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, co-organized by Kyrgyzstan.

The event was attended by delegations of Member States and UN agencies.

The meeting participants shared their visions on the prospects for deepening cooperation in improving the ecosystems of mountainous areas, improving the well-being of the inhabitants of such regions, as well as preserving glaciers.

In turn, in his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov acquainted the participants with the priorities of our country for the development of mountainous regions, the creation of the necessary conditions for improving the socio-economic well-being of their inhabitants. Efforts to promote issues of the "green" agenda, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and careful use of natural resources were noted.

The commitment of Uzbekistan to deepening joint work with international partners in the republic’s priority areas of conservation of the mountain ecosystem was confirmed. The relevance of the development of the World Environmental Charter, which was initiated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, was also emphasized.
