Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Authorized representatives of the special services of Afghanistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan held talks on the current situation on the state border of the two countries, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The incident, which took place on 21 August 2022 on the territory of the Aral Paygambar island (Surkhandarya region), connected with the illegal crossing of the State border of Uzbekistan by citizens of Afghanistan, was discussed.

During the meeting, it was recognized that separate violations were committed on both sides, which led to tension in the area.

The incident is currently being thoroughly investigated.

The Republic of Uzbekistan expresses its condolences to the families of the two victims, provides all necessary medical assistance to the six wounded and completes the procedure for preparing the detainees for their return to their homeland.

Both sides reaffirmed their firm commitment to peace and the resolution of all existing issues based on consideration of each other's interests and mutual respect.
