The fulfillment of international obligations in the field of human rights is considered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 February 2023, the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan provided information on the state of the country’s fulfillment of international obligations in the field of human rights.

The consideration took place during a meeting of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on international relations, foreign economic relations, foreign investment and tourism.

During the substantive discussion, it was emphasized that the issues of protection and observance of human rights in Uzbekistan are a priority. Within the framework of the country’s National Human Rights Strategy, targeted measures are being taken to ensure the political, economic, social and humanitarian rights and freedoms of citizens of the republic.

In order to bring the national legislation and legal practice of the Republic of Uzbekistan in line with international standards, a number of UN and International Labor Organization (ILO) Conventions have been ratified.

The Decree of the Head of State approved the National Human Rights Education Program in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is an important step towards raising the level of legal culture of young people.

At the same time, the senators stressed that a number of problems still persist that impede the effective application of international human rights standards and the provision of reliable protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens.

Thus, there is an insufficient formation of knowledge and skills in the field of human rights among law enforcement officers, which negatively affects law enforcement activities.

Senators were particularly concerned about the results of monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which showed that social infrastructure facilities (roads, schools, universities, clinics, hospitals) are not sufficiently adapted for people with disabilities, there is a shortage of Braille textbooks.

Based on the results of a comprehensive and open discussion at the meeting of the Committee, relevant decisions and recommendations were adopted.
