Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In order to discuss current issues of cooperation with the Suginami district of Tokyo, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan organized a meeting with its mayor Ryo Tanaka.
Suginami is one of the special districts of Tokyo with a population of 588,405. It houses modern sports and cultural facilities. In 2019, Suginami was designated the venue for a training camp for Uzbek boxers in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of developing cooperation with Suginami in the cultural, humanitarian and sports spheres, as well as the possibility of establishing ties in the fields of economy and tourism.
Despite the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, over the past year, about 10 different presentations, exhibitions, competitions and other events dedicated to the culture, art and tourist attractions of Uzbekistan were held in Suginami. These events were attended by thousands of people who got acquainted with the culture, music, dances and national dress of the Uzbek people.
At the 18th international competition in the Japanese language, organized by the Suginami Cultural Exchange Association, among 12 participants from 9 countries, a student from Uzbekistan at the University of Tsukuba Sardorkhuzh Bozorboev took first place. The high level of knowledge of the Uzbek student of the Japanese language and his speech aroused great interest among the listeners.
As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached on further elaboration of issues of practical cooperation, and as the situation with the coronavirus stabilizes, the practice of holding joint events will continue.
