The election outcome is decided by the legal culture of voters

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 28 January 2021, a round table was held in an online format on the topic: "Electoral legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan: Status and prospects."

It was organized by the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights in cooperation with Namangan, Termez, Nukus and Samarkand State Universities.

Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, employees of institutes and centers, authoritative experts of the legal sphere took part in the work of the "round table".

As noted by the meeting participants, on the eve of the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, one of the most important tasks is to improve the legal culture of voters, as well as to organize the political process at a high level to ensure sustainable development and prosperity of the people.

The conduct of this political event on the basis and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the laws of the country, as well as generally recognized international democratic standards, largely depends on the political culture of our society, high voter turnout, their political maturity and awareness of civic duty. After all, the goal of the elections will be achieved only if each voter is aware of the democratic reforms being implemented in the country, consciously approaches this process, understanding how important his voice is for the life of society and the state, for the future of the country. Each voter bears great responsibility, because the electoral process is, first of all, free choice and conscious voting with a full understanding of the importance of this process and their role in it.

In this regard, during the "round table" discussed topical issues of improving the national electoral legislation, its further implementation with generally recognized international standards and harmonization with the ongoing democratic reforms in the country. The participants made proposals on measures that will further enhance the political prestige of Uzbekistan, improve the country's position in international rankings.

The importance of taking into account a number of positive recommendations of international organizations for improving national legislation was noted, which will serve to eliminate the still existing shortcomings in the electoral process, as well as to convey to the world community the essence of the large-scale reforms taking place in the country.

Improving legislation, introducing amendments to it on the basis of the best international experience create an ever more solid foundation for a conscious decision by every citizen of Uzbekistan on voting day.
