Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 May this year, as part of the stay of the delegation of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan in Ashgabat, a meeting was held with Arkadag, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov.

During the meeting, the parties noted that in recent years, Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation has gained momentum and reached the level of strategic partnership based on centuries-old friendship, common history and culture and traditions of the peoples of the two countries.

Arkadag highly appreciated the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to hold consultative meetings of the heads of state of Central Asia, at which our countries have the opportunity to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues. Time itself has proved the relevance of this regional mechanism of interaction.

In this regard, the parties stressed the importance of effective parliamentary control over the implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level. In particular, the legislature will make its efforts to ensure the legal support of the signed agreements, effective parliamentary control over their implementation, as well as the exchange of legislative experience.

Particular attention was also paid to the issues of intensifying contacts between the regions of the two countries.

Arkadag emphasized the timeliness of the initiative of the head of our state to create a Dialogue of Women Leaders in Central Asia and highly appreciated the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in it in 2021. It was noted that this platform creates a unique opportunity for a substantive discussion of topical issues of gender equality, the role of women in the family, society and the development of the state.

Taking into account the special attention paid by our countries to youth policy, the parties stressed the importance of establishing and intensifying contacts between young parliamentarians of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, taking into account modern requirements.
