Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the regular plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the issue of forming the Senate Commission for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was considered.
During the meeting, the senators noted that the State visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea, which took place on 16-18 December 2021, became a new milestone in relations between the countries, which made it possible to bring cooperation to the level of strategic partnership and alliance.
It was emphasized that as a result of the visit of the head of our state, breakthrough and large-scale agreements were reached.
Thus, a solid package of investment and financial agreements worth more than US$5 billion was signed in such areas as mechanical engineering, agriculture, textile industry, pharmaceuticals, geology, IT technology, green energy and others.
Special attention during the visit was paid to the further strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties as an important element of people’s diplomacy.
Following the results of the state visit, Presidential Decree No. 67 from 28 December 2021 “On measures to further deepen the special strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea” was adopted, which also includes three plans (“road maps”) of practical actions.
As part of the discussion, the senators noted the importance of establishing systemic parliamentary control over the implementation of the agreements reached during high-level visits, consolidating the efforts of ministries and departments in this direction and promptly resolving emerging problems.
In this regard, an initiative was put forward to create a Senate Commission for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
The main tasks of this structure should be the exchange of experience in the field of legislative and control activities, the study of the effectiveness of projects financed by South Korean financial institutions, the consideration of proposals from ministries and departments on investment projects planned for implementation with South Korea, as well as the establishment and expansion of interregional ties, analysis of the dynamics development of bilateral relations.
The senators also noted that the creation of a platform for the further development of bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation will allow hearing reports and information from state and economic authorities on the implementation of tasks set on the basis of agreements between the countries.
As a result of the discussion, a resolution of the Senate was adopted, according to which the Regulations and the personal composition of the Commission, which included senators and heads of relevant ministries and departments, companies and civil society institutions, were approved.
