Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 December, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held in the format of a video conference.
The agenda of the summit includes issues of assessing the current state and prospects for the development of multifaceted relations within the CIS in all areas of political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as in the field of joint counteraction to new challenges and threats.
It is expected that the head of our state in his speech will outline the vision of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the long-term tasks of the CIS and will voice specific proposals for expanding practical partnership.
During the meeting, the heads of delegations will also consider the draft Concept for the further development of the CIS for the period up to 2030 and the Plan for its implementation, which define the strategic goals and main activities of interaction for the near and medium term.
Following the meeting, it is planned to adopt joint statements on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations and on cooperation in the field of international information security, as well as decisions on various aspects of the Commonwealth’s activities, including on the venue for the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State in 2021.
It should be noted that this year the Republic of Uzbekistan for the first time assumed the responsible mission of the chairmanship in the CIS.
Despite the difficult conditions associated with the spread of the pandemic, the Concept of our country’s chairmanship in the CIS has been fully implemented.
Meetings of the Council of Heads of Government, the Economic Council, the Council of Foreign Ministers, and other statutory and sectoral bodies of the CIS were successfully held.
A number of important documents have been adopted, among which the Economic Development Strategy, the Priority Areas of Cooperation in the Transport Sector, the Strategy for Cooperation in Tourism, Sports and Youth Policy, and many others, calculated until 2030.
In general, about 60 multilateral events were held, over 70 documents were adopted that contribute to the further development and strengthening of the CIS.
