The Chairman of the Senate holds a conversation with the Regional Director of UN-Women for Europe and Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 January 2021, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a conversation with the Regional Director of UN-Women for Europe and Central Asia Aliya El-Yassir, organized in the format of video conferencing.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Helena Fraser took part in the dialogue.

The participants of the event discussed the further development of interaction within the framework of UN-Women in promoting gender equality, as well as in empowering women.

An exchange of views took place on the organizational issues of the subregional consultations scheduled for February 2021 to prepare for the 65th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Aliya El-Yassir noted with great satisfaction that in such a short time Uzbekistan has come a long way and achieved significant results in the political and socio-economic spheres: "The serious approach and efforts of the country's leadership, which are an example for other states, inspire."

Having highly appreciated the measures taken in Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring gender equality and wide involvement of women in the public and political life of the country, the Regional Director of UN-Women noted that such impressive progress in this area is observed in the country.

Aliya El-Yassir welcomed the creation of an informal platform for the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia, which, she said, will contribute to the empowerment of women in the region.

She also reported on the preparations for the Generation Equality Forum.

The parties agreed to continue interaction and joint work to help women after the pandemic, to implement all plans and tasks identified in the 2030 agenda for sustainable development at the subregional and global levels.
