The Central Asian Online Forum on the Role of Women in strengthening peace, trust and security takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 March 2021, a Central Asian online forum was held on the topic: "The role of women in strengthening peace, trust and security."

It was attended by members of parliaments, representatives of governmental and non-governmental structures, as well as experts specializing in gender equality from Central Asian countries.

The event was organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as with the support of the Gender Office of the Secretariat and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

During the forum, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva made a video message.

The head of the upper house of parliament noted that strengthening regional security and stability, ensuring peace in Central Asia, sustainable development and good neighborliness with the countries of the region, including Afghanistan, are identified as the main priorities of our country’s foreign policy.

And the current difficult and tense situation has confirmed the vital need for multilateral partnership in strengthening peace, confidence and security.

The establishment of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia has become a historic event and a positive example of interaction between the countries of the region, aimed at developing regional cooperation in enhancing the role of all women.

During the sessions of the online forum, issues of ensuring gender equality, providing broad political, economic and social rights and opportunities for women, ensuring equal opportunities and gender balance at all levels of civil service and public life, as well as in the processes of peace and development were considered.

As a result of the Forum, a final document was adopted on the effective implementation of the principles of gender equality and the practical implementation of the relevant national mechanisms, within the framework of the OSCE commitments and international documents affecting gender equality.
