The cause of the accident that occurred in the energy system of Central Asia named

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A special commission of the Energia Coordinating Dispatch Center (CDC Energia), which included representatives of system operators of energy systems in Central Asia, in particular Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, completed an investigation into the accident that occurred on 25 January 2022. This was reported by the press service of KEGOC JSC.

The commission established that the cause of the accident was a power outage in the energy system of Uzbekistan - on this day at 11:59 o’clock in the city of Nur-Sultan, a short circuit occurred at the linear disconnector of the high-voltage overhead power line 500 kV connecting the Syrdarya TPP and the 500 kV substation "Tashkent" ( Uzbekistan). The subsequent excessive operation of the differential protection of the 1st and 2nd 500kV busbar systems caused a significant reduction in generation at the Syrdarya TPP, multiple outages in the electrical network adjacent to the power plant and a power surge of 2100 MW on 500 kV North-East-South transits of the Unified Electric Power System ( UES) of Kazakhstan (7 times higher than the allowable).

The emergency automatics of electric networks of KEGOC JSC and power plants in the south of Kazakhstan worked in the normal mode, taking into account the requirements for the separation of the power system in case of system accidents. Thanks to this, it was possible to prevent the complete repayment of consumers in the southern zone of Kazakhstan, while maintaining electricity supply to approximately 60% of consumers in the south of the country. At the same time, the energy systems of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were completely de-energized.

KEGOC draws attention to the fact that it took 4 hours to eliminate the accident and remove restrictions on all consumers in Kazakhstan, which indicates the high professionalism of the personnel of the system operator of the UES of Kazakhstan. In the NPG of Kyrgyzstan, the scheme and regime were restored in more than a day, and in the NPG of Uzbekistan, the restoration of power supply to consumers took four days.
