The Ambassador of Uzbekistan presented credentials to the Co-Prince of Andorra

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Farrukh Tursunov, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Spain (with residence in Madrid), presented his credentials to Joan Enric Vives i Sicília, the Bishop of Urgell and Co-Prince of the Principality of Andorra, the “Dunyo” news agency reports.

Following the official ceremony, a discussion took place during which Bishop Vives i Sicília warmly welcomed the Uzbek diplomat and expressed sincere interest in the ongoing transformative processes in Uzbekistan. He highly praised the thoughtful and farsighted policies of Uzbekistan’s leadership aimed at strengthening peace, stability, and international cooperation, especially amid global turbulence.

The Co-Prince also highlighted Uzbekistan’s experience in ensuring interethnic and interreligious harmony. He emphasized that Uzbekistan is home to over 130 peoples and ethnic groups, as well as more than 2,000 religious organizations peacefully coexisting in a spirit of respect and tolerance. It was noted that the socially oriented domestic policy and active international stance of Uzbekistan deserve respect and recognition.

Despite Andorra’s modest size, the Bishop expressed a desire to deepen bilateral ties with Uzbekistan, viewing it as a significant and respected partner. He remarked with interest on the resilience of Uzbekistan’s economy, demonstrated even during the COVID-19 pandemic, attributing the successes during that period to targeted and effective reforms.

Special attention during the conversation was given to Uzbekistan’s tourism potential. Bishop Vives i Sicília expressed admiration for Samarkand, calling it an outstanding historical center and a symbol of Central Asia’s cultural heritage. He conveyed his intention to personally visit Uzbekistan in the future, noting the growing interest among Andorran youth in countries with rich histories and unique cultures, with Uzbekistan holding a special place among them.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties confirmed their intention to intensify cooperation between Uzbekistan and Andorra, expanding partnerships in culture, tourism, and international engagement.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Principality of Andorra were established on 1 December 2009.

It is worth recalling that earlier, on 11 March, Ambassador Farrukh Tursunov presented credentials to the other Co-Prince of Andorra — the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. On 15 March, he also handed copies of his credentials to Andorra’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Imma Tor Faus.
