The 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council starts its work

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 February 2022, the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council began its work in Geneva.

It is known that in the elections to the UN General Assembly on 1 October, 2020, for the first time in the history of our national statehood, Uzbekistan was elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council for a three-year term - 2021-2023. Our country has been fulfilling its mission in this regard since 1 January 2021.

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the first time took part in the High-Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on 22-24 February 2021. The high-level segment is the most important political event of the year of the Human Rights Council.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward a number of national, regional and international initiatives from the rostrum of this influential international organization. These initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan are widely supported by the world community and are being consistently implemented.

In particular, on 8 October 2021 in Geneva, within the framework of the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council, at the initiative of Uzbekistan, a resolution was adopted on the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for the human rights of young people. The initiative to develop and adopt a resolution was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 22 February 2021 at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The Uzbek delegation headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov is taking part in the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The UN Human Rights Council was established on 5 March 2006 by UN General Assembly resolution 60/251. On the basis of this resolution, the Council will conduct a Universal Periodic Review of the fulfillment of human rights obligations by each state, thereby ensuring universal and equal treatment for all states.

The Human Rights Council is a body of the UN General Assembly. Its main task is to promote freedom, the rule of law and justice.
