The 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia Held in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia took place in Tashkent, with participation from representatives of the Olympic Council of Asia and the National Olympic Committees of member countries, as well as leaders of the International Olympic Committee and major international sports organizations, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the national Olympic and Paralympic Committees.
During the Assembly, participants discussed strategic issues concerning the development of sports across the Asian continent, preparations for major international competitions, and initiatives aimed at further strengthening the Olympic movement in the region.
A key item on the agenda was the election of a new president of the Olympic Council of Asia.
Additionally, participants signed an official agreement on hosting the IV Asian Youth Games, which will take place in Tashkent in 2029.
Following the vote, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees and President of the National Olympic Committee of Qatar, was unanimously elected as President of the Council.
The Uzbek side congratulated Sheikh Al Thani on his election and expressed confidence in his successful work in advancing the Olympic movement in Asia, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening cooperation between countries on the continent in the field of sports.
