Temporary Shutdown of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Tashkent Due to Documentation Violations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent city administration has temporarily suspended operations at electric vehicle (EV) charging stations installed in violation of regulations, the city’s press service reported.

Authorities denied rumors of a complete shutdown of the city’s charging infrastructure, emphasizing that an ongoing inventory aims to organize the stations, assess connection conditions, and evaluate load on the power grid.

According to the administration, the capital has around 1,300 fast-charging units with capacities exceeding 20 kW. Since 3 March, 12 inspection teams have examined over 300 stations. Temporary disconnections affected 101 stations lacking the required documentation, while 62 station owners had not signed electricity supply contracts with power distributors.

The administration stressed that these measures are intended to reduce risks to residents’ power supply and ensure safe network operation. Unauthorized connections without prior calculations and technical approvals can overload the system and cause power disruptions in residential buildings. Officials clarified that the effort to regulate EV charging does not aim to restrict the development of e-mobility but to ensure the safe and sustainable functioning of the infrastructure.

Legal assessments of violations are under the jurisdiction of the relevant authorities, which record infractions and recommend corrective actions. The administration criticized attempts to sensationalize the issue and affirmed its readiness to work constructively with entrepreneurs who operate legally and meet technical standards.

Previously, the city reported multiple violations in fast-charging station operations, including direct connections to transformers without accounting for load limits or projected consumption growth in residential areas. Station owners have been advised to legalize their activities promptly.
