Temporary Air Quality Decline Expected in Uzbekistan Due to Cold Anticyclone

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting today, a cold anticyclone is moving into Uzbekistan, which may temporarily worsen air quality, according to meteorological experts.

Current weather conditions in the region are conducive to the formation of a temperature inversion, a phenomenon in which cold air becomes trapped near the ground, preventing natural dispersion of pollutants.

The situation is linked to sharp temperature fluctuations: nighttime lows are around +5…+7°C, while daytime highs reach +16…+18°C. Tashkent, in particular, is currently under the influence of a cool, humid air mass.

Morning conditions are marked by fog, high humidity, and near-calm winds, resulting in slow air circulation and the accumulation of pollutants within urban atmospheres.

Under these conditions, typical city pollutants — primarily from vehicles, heating systems, fuel combustion, and industrial emissions — accumulate near the ground, potentially increasing concentrations of dust and fine particulate matter in the air.

Experts predict that this meteorological pattern may persist for the next three days. By 10 March, the cold anticyclone is expected to cover the entire country.

Air quality is likely to improve with stabilized temperatures, stronger winds, and precipitation, which will help disperse accumulated pollutants.
