Tashkent to host Central Asian high-level dialogue on climate change and sustainability

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 December 2022, Tashkent will host the High-Level Central Asian Climate Dialogue on the theme "From global knowledge to local solutions: climate resilient institutions in Central Asia".

The event was initiated with the support of Uzhydromet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and will be organized by UNDP in Uzbekistan as part of the EU-funded Climate Change and Resilience in Central Asia project in close cooperation with the GIZ Green Central Asia project funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the 4th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, the Regional Program "Green Agenda" for Central Asia was approved and a statement was made on strengthening regional cooperation in combating climate change, rational use of water and energy resources and promoting regional initiatives at the UN platforms for solving the most pressing environmental problems of the region.

In addition, international organizations are taking joint action to ensure a reasonable balance between climate change mitigation and adaptation, as outlined in the European Consensus on the development of both part of the EU and global policy in the region.

The conference is expected to build a comprehensive dialogue and showcase the climate policy of the Central Asian states in relation to the risks associated with climate change. Also, the dialogue will touch upon changing the long-term vision of increasing resilience to climate change and natural disasters through the adoption of comprehensive measures to combat climate change together with all stakeholders.

Building resilience to climate change, water, energy and food nexus, regional partnerships and knowledge management are the key themes of the planned three panel sessions.
