Tashkent to Become Greener: Environmental Campaign Supporting Sustainable Transport Underway in the Capital
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 2 to 8 June, Tashkent is hosting an environmental initiative dedicated to World Environment Day.
As part of the campaign, for every kilometer traveled on electric scooters, electric cars, or via carpooling rides, 100 soms will be donated to city greening efforts.
All funds raised during this period will be used to plant trees in the fall, which is the most favorable season for seedling survival. The initiative aims to promote eco-friendly modes of transport and expand green spaces within the urban environment.
Participants can join the campaign through the Yandex Go mobile app by choosing rides in electric cars under the “Electro” tariff, carpooling under the “Together” tariff, or renting electric scooters. Using such transport options helps reduce the burden on city infrastructure and lowers harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
Switching to sustainable modes of transportation—such as zero-emission electric vehicles and scooters—significantly decreases pollutant levels that negatively impact public health and the environment.
Like many other major cities, Tashkent faces environmental challenges, including air pollution and a shortage of green areas.
Experts believe that increasing the area of green spaces not only improves air quality but also makes the urban environment more comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, and conducive to healthy living.
